Well, it's that time again! School is starting in just over a week. Friday the class lists are posted. I had been anxiously counting down the days for the last couple of weeks, waiting to see whose class the kids are in and which of their friends are in their class. Alison got Ms. Durfee. From what I can tell, she has been teaching for 8 years. She has a fun website with lots of fun ideas and she seems like she is going to be a really fun teacher for Alison. She does quarterly projects, which Alison is super excited about, but I am not totally looking forward to. The first one is where they have to make a 3D monster, complete with name and back story (including all 5 senses). They also must make a map of the Monster's hometown as well as a grocery list for the monster to spend $20. I think the kids will love it, but I am thinking this sounds like one of those projects that Mom and Dad end up "helping" a LOT.
Evan got a teacher that just got married over the summer. Her name is Mrs. Maynard. I know nothing of her other than a girl standing there as we looked over the lists said "She is so nice!" I am excited that Evan has one of his friends in his class though. I figured with as many first grade boys as there are in this neighborhood at least one of them would be in his class. I hope he has a fun year!
Hunter is starting kindergarten this year, but they haven't posted the class lists for him yet. I guess the classes are HUGE and they are trying to hire another teacher but they are a few kids short of getting the funding, so they are giving parents a few more days to register any kids that aren't registered yet. I am pretty certain that he is going to get Mrs. Peterson again. Evan had her last year and we liked her a lot. She said she would watch for Hunter's name and request him in her class. I think it will be lots of fun for him!!! Can't wait for the confirmation.
Josh is going to have the same preschool teacher that Hunter had when he was 3. She is such a sweetheart and just amazing with the kids. I figured if he had any chance of making it, she would have to be his teacher. Unfortunately, she is only teaching the Monday, Wednesday, Friday class this year, so that means more $$ and more time away from home (and Mom playing taxi). I keep telling myself that we will see how he does and there is a possiblity that I will yank him out. He is so young (not even quite three when school starts) and C-R-A-Z-Y! If he isn't ready there is no need to push him.
One more week of summer. One more week of swimming. One more week of parks. One more week of play dates. Seems like the week is already quickly filling up though. We have Dr's appointments, Dentist appointments, Birthday parties, Back to school night for both schools, and of course that last week of fun activities like Thanksgiving Point ($2 Tuesday), etc. I have completely mixed emotions about school starting again. I love the organization...the schedule that we have when school is in. I am looking forward to having three mornings a week with NO KIDS! I can't even fathom what that will be like. I am excited to help out in the classrooms and see my kids reach for the stars. I am not looking forward to the 7:15am bus stop! The cold and the snow. Being alone three mornings a week! Playing taxi (A and E catch the bus at 7:15am, H at 8:30am and J has to be at school at 9:20am). Soccer practice, Football practice AND dance practice! No sleeping in! Homework! Talk to me next May though. I will not be too happy about losing my schedule and alone time! :) I hope my kids have a wonderful year and be the best students they can be!!!
