FLY lady
I have heard of FLY lady before, but never checked out her site until today. Kirk is gone hunting and I was a little bored and between all the H's (Halloween, Hunting and Holmer kids), the house is a mess, so I was looking for some organizational tips. It looks like a fun way to get your house in shape (though she said it takes months...I am not a patient person so we will see how this goes). At least my sink is shiny! :) If you haven't yet, check it out and let me know what you think. I would also love to hear from anyone that has used it before. Did it help? So...I guess I am on the monthly plan! :) Not being able to upload pictures has seriously cramped my blogging style!
I guess it is time for a little update...
Our family has had a busy summer so far. Kirk has been crazy with ANOC and he is swamped at work, but he still makes time for a little bit of fishing, swimming and hiking with the kids. What a fun Dad!
Alison is taking dance and made the company team so she will go 3 hours a week in the fall. I am a little worried about the time commitment, but I think she will really enjoy it.
Evan starts Kindergarten in 3 weeks!!! Ahhhh! He can't wait and yesterday I asked him to count as high as he could for me because I wanted to see where he skipped a number or messed up. I expected him to get to 29 at the most, but do you know that kid counted to 200 without skipping a number or messing up!!!!!!! I think I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. He could have kept going, but I told him to stop there.
Hunter just had his 4th birthday! He chose to go to a movie and Kangaroo zoo. We always let the kids choose where they want to eat the night of their birthday and he chose Texas Roadhouse because "they have salad." He is such a good eater. The other day he was telling me about Cars (the movie) and was telling me about "Lightning THE Queen." I got a great laugh out of that one.
Josh is really starting to talk and last week he attached himself to a teddy bear he calls "Baby." He had to have Baby at nap time and bed time and if he had an owie. Well, last night I tried to give him Baby at bedtime and he screamed "No!" Then he hit the bear and threw it out of the crib. So much for Baby!!!!
As for me, I have been very busy this summer. I have been taking the kids swimming quite a bit...by myself...I know, I'm crazy. I, also, just finished a big FRG fundraiser. Another leader and I took on making and selling lunch to 40 guys 4-5 times a week for 3 weeks! It was a LOT of work. More than I realized before I started. The kids were so great though. I would keep the car on and leave them in there because we were selling the lunches at a shooting range where they were using live rounds (we were out in the middle of nowhere and the car was parked in a dirt lot a few feet away from where I was...I just didn't want them running around out there). They were sooooo good. I am really blessed to have such a great family!
There you go. There's a quick update on the family, that ended up being not so quick as I had to get cereal, change diapers, break up fights, etc while typing this out!!! Hahaha! :) Things are looking like they are going to slow down after school starts, so hopefully I will post a little more often.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile
My computer is really crazy. Well actually it is the internet. It wont let me upload pictures. I don't know what is wrong with it. Anyway, I have several pictures and videos I would like to post, but I guess I will have to wait on that. I did add a new play list onto my blog and apparently I must have been sad when I created it because all of the songs are really depressing! I didn't realize it when I was doing it. The first song is by a girl from Montana, if I remember correctly, and she wants it to be on the New Moon soundtrack. Wouldn't it be perfect?
We are heading to Montana next week for the 4th of July. Hopefully we will get some good pics and I will figure out how to get them to upload! :)

Spring Break
It just so happened that Kirk had to go up to Montana, to finalize some training they are planning, the week of spring break. Lucky for us this means they paid for all travel expenses plus about $50 a day, so we all packed up and we visited family at the same time. We were able to celebrate Easter up there which was a special treat for the kids.

The big Easter egg hunt. We always put our loose change in the eggs instead of candy and then one of the eggs has a dollar bill in it. Evan got it this year! The little boy in the blue shirt is my nephew Brayden.

After having a friend of the family die from injuries sustained from an ATV, I am not a fan, but boys will be boys. Josh and Kirk rode this to a friends house and Josh screamed when the ride was over. I am in trouble!!!
Luckily there are no child labor laws in Montana.
We put the kids to work stacking wood.
We didn't even give them gloves! :)

The newest member...
of our family. My newest little nephew, Alex, was born just a few days before we went to Montana. It was great getting to meet the little guy. He was the sweetest, cuddliest baby ever!! And look at all that hair.....
DIY
I came across a cute idea a few weeks ago on a friends blog. You make little pictures using scrapbook paper, foam board, and modge podge. I think they turned out super cute, but not very durable. After a few days the kids knocked them down and someone (probably Tucker) ripped the paper off of them. They were cute while they lasted though!!!
These were in Alison's room. She picked out the papers.
These are the boys. I loved the Army one. It was my favorite that I did. I may have to recreate this on a canvas so that it is more durable. They were fun to do and I now have a fun craft idea for when the kids get older.

Draper Temple Open House
Kirk and I had the opportunity to take our family to the Draper temple open house yesterday. It was such a special experience for me. I remember going through the San Diego temple when I wasn't much older than Alison. At that time I wasn't a member of this church and to be honest with you I hadn't even heard of the "mormon" church at that time. I remember the special feelings I had as I walked through that gorgeous building and how it was one of the first seeds that years later lead to my baptism. It was so wonderful sharing this with my children. I know they felt the Spirit there also.
Alison wanted to take a picture of Kirk and I. Notice Hunter in the background....he really wanted to be in it too.
My inlaws with all of their gradkids. My Father-in-law is not a member of our church so it was neat that he came along. The kids asked him how he felt when he was there and he said that he felt good and thought it was a neat building.
Alison wanted to write something down on the comment card as we were leaving. She wrote "I feel good. I feel very close to my Heavenly Father" except she spelled Heavenly hevenly. She is such a sweet little girl and reality is setting in that she will soon be baptized. I am so grateful that she loves the gospel. I love the feelings of peace I get when I go to the temple. I agree with Alison...I feel very close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ there. There are no words to describe how grateful I am for the gospel in my life and how happy I am to share this with my children!

I was driving in my car today, feeling a little blue when these two cute songs came on and I cheered right up. These are from a CD that my sister-in-law gave the kids a couple of years ago for Christmas. The group is Inside Out. I would recommend their CD's to everyone. We really enjoy them (most of the songs are church oriented). These videos are pretty dumb, though! Hope this brings a smile to your face...
Soooo....I am down to my last 24 hours before Kirk comes home. I have tried to do some things around the house to surprise Kirk when he gets home. When we bought this house we were only going to be here for 2 years, so I never made this house "my own." It was just a stopping place along the way. Now, with the housing prices dropping the way they have, I think we will be here for awhile, so it is time to do some decoarting!!! Here are some of the things I did while Kirk was gone.
*Paint Alison's room and touch up the boys' room.
*Switch their rooms
*Paint and hang magnet boards for each room.
*Hang curtains in the basement.
*Buy and start to decorate a sofa table.
*Cleaned out "toy room"
*Made 8 lbs of meatballs and 4 lbs of meatloaf for freezer meals.
*Purchased rod iron art to hang in stairwell (I need to wait for Kirk to actually hang it so it doesn't come crashing down on someone's head someday!!!)
*Organized the pantry and hung over the door spice rack organizer thingy.
It doesn't sound like much but with 4 kids to take care of (one with a busted ear drum) and no debit card for 2 1/2 weeks, we got as much done as possible.
Things I didn't accomplish that I wanted to...
*Paint guest bathroom and decorate it.
*Put toys in "toy room" downstairs.
*Get 40 lbs box of chicken and make freezer meals with it.
*Get picture frames and pics of the kids to hang in their rooms.
*Get a lamp and some sort of wall art for the boys' room.
*Finish decorating sofa table.
*I am looking for some sort of table (around 5 feet long) to put downstairs. I want to hang a sentimental piece of art that Kirk's father gave him over it. I am having a hard time finding what I want at an affordable price.
*Spring clean my room (I didn't think I would get to this)
*Make Karley's salsa
Most of this stuff I can do in the next couple of weeks. If anyone finds any cute bathroom stuff at a reasonable price let me know. I am looking for something not too formal (it is the kids bathroom), but not rubber ducky's either. Something that would be good in both a guest bathroom and a kids bathroom since it functions as both. I haven't been able to find anything I like so far.
It has been a trying 5 weeks, but a fun one as well. I am always grateful to spend time with my parents. My Dad will be 79 this year, so I don't know how much longer he will be able to make the 10 hour trip. We had our trials though...Josh's ear drum ruptured and he had to have 3 different antibiotics to clear up the infection....I got a bolt in my tire and had to get the flat fixed....I had no debit or ATM card for 2 1/2 weeks due to a breech of the credit card company....Everyone in the house got sick...We made it though and I am grateful that these things are relatively small. We will be heading to Disneyland soon to celebrate!!! Thanks to all my friends who are there for me when I need them!!! -Sum

Holiday recap
DISCLAIMER: This is a very boring, random post with no pictures. I have a cold and this is the best I could do for now! :)
Well, I am not very good at this blogging thing. I feel like my life is pretty boring and uneventful, but since Kirk keeps sharing our blog address I guess I better post more often so there is at least something on there to read. :)
We had a wonderful Christmas. One of the best Christmas' I can remember, actually. After last Christmas, this was a welcomed change. The kids had a blast and only had a couple of presents each to open. I thought they were going to be very sad that there wasn't more, but they were so grateful for everything the received...and the best part is that I don't have a bunch of new junkie toys to try to keep picked up!
Alison received a jump rope, some books and a very small case of makeup. Evan received a transformer and Star Wars Lego for the Wii. Hunter received a power wheels motorcycle and a bug vacuum. Josh received a set of musical instruments. I think our kids must have been exceptionally good this year, because Santa brought them a Wii! Mom and Dad received a Wii Fit, which I am happy to report is used daily. Unfortunately, since I am exercising I have convinced myself that living on a diet of chocolate and ice cream is okay! After all, I need the happiness after working out for a half hour a day! I can already feel it working in my abs, legs and arms.
Alison lost her first top tooth a couple of days after Christmas. She was terrified to lose it. This is her 5th tooth to lose, so I don't know why there was so much drama. Finally I grabbed the tooth and Grandpa Lee told her to yank her head back real quick. It actually worked!!! I couldn't believe it. She had a red tooth fairy this time that brought her a dollar. The tooth fairy "couldn't find her tooth", so she left in on the counter with a note. Actually I think her tooth fairy was just a little lazy and forgetful!
Over New Years we had a great time making new friends and reuniting with old friends. On New Years Eve we went to Alison's "boyfriend's" house (this little boy has a crush on her and we like to tease her about it). We had a great time having a seafood dinner and playing a fun new card game. We got home late and went to bed because we had a big day the next day. We had invited over 3 couples that I knew from college. Unfortunately only one of the couples was able to come. We had a blast seeing each other again, though. We played I Love the 80's, which I will have you know, I ROCKED! We also had our traditional "Chimichangas" which date back to New Years Eve 2001, when we went to some friends' in North Carolina and stole their New Year's tradition. Mwahahahahaha! The next night we invited some neighbors over to watch Wall-E on our new BIG screen TV. The Dad works out of town and was home for the holiday. It was sooo great having them over. We will have to do that more often. Finally, on Sunday, we had our friends the Rexes, over. They are our neighbors from West Jordan. Again, it was really, really fun hanging out again.
Now we are just trying to get back in the swing of school, work, chores, etc. Maybe someday I will even catch up on laundry...okay who am I kidding???
I think that about sums up our holidays. I hope that all of you had as great a time as we did. May your 2009 be even better than your 2008! Love, Summer
